Mellaha Lake Grand Prix circuit

Hey kids,

Will be in Tripoli permanently end of Oct. Question: Does anyone know if the Mellaha Lake race track is being used for anything right now? How long does it take to get there by car from Tripoli?

It certainly existed and it's legacy can be seen in the suicidal nature of the driving in and around Tripoli...

The old site of the circuit is at Tajura, around 10km west of the city and close to the coast. This area is undergoing redevelopment and I doubt if there's anything left of the original track.

So bringing my mortorbike over there is not a good idea then? Is the traffic as bad as Istanbul?

I've been riding bikes for as long as I learned to fall off them. I was thinking about bringing in a bike myself (a decent non thrashed or dropped 1,000cc Gixer, R1, Ninja or similar) go for 20,000 Lyd+

But having considered the totally idiotic and suicidal way they drive around here, decided against it. :o

No more bikes for me until I can get the fcuk out of this place

Yes I was just reading in FP magazine 2nd highest mortality rate for car incidents 130 deaths per 10,000 cars whereas US and Canada are around 10 per 10,000.

Looks like I will have to settle for monthly trips to the BRNO circuit for track days and get a driver for Tripoli (working 3 weeks out of 4 in Tripoli 1 week off in Czech Republic.)

Buying a used (obviously 'cause they don't make 'em anymore) Ducatti 748s for $7,000 Cdn, putting it on the boat to CZ.

What do people do for "business" wear in Tripoli? Because of the heat is it a business casual or is it suit and tie ( finance type environment dealing with some of the local people)

Theiman,

What is FP magazine?  I'd like to pass on the statistic to friends back home, but want better source info.

So which country has the worst record?

Smart casual for day-to-day business, although you might need a tie and jacket

Theiman

FP stands for Foreign Policy magazine. Botswana has the worst record with 166 deaths per 100,000 cars
