Advice on upcoming move to Riyadh

Post new topic

Robert GCC

Hi all,

I'm a single American man that has been living in Dubai for the past few years, and I will be moving to Riyadh in May 2012 (hopefully).  I've got a few questions on my move and finding a place in Riyadh.  My budget for a 1 (or 2) bedroom unfurnished apartment is SAR 60-70k per year.

- Can I get an apartment in a compound in that price range?

- I have read a lot about the long waiting times for villas in nice compounds - does this also apply to 1-2 bedroom apartments as well?

- I'm leaning towards just getting an apartment off compound - I think it would be a much quicker process, and I can probably get a very nice 1-2 bedroom unfurnished place for 40-50k.  Is that a reasonable expectation?

- I know a lot of people rent furnished apartments in Riyadh.  I bought some pretty nice furniture in the past few years, and I'd really like to bring it with me to Riyadh.  Is that a crazy idea?  I just don't want to have to sell all of these things, and it would be nice to have my stuff with me.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Robert

Ciao :)
I think villas start from about 85k or at least around that range. So I'm pretty sure you'd be able to find a nice single bedroom apartment for 60k :| I would suggest you pick Fal compound though. I just think most bachelors prefer staying there for some reason. And yes I'm afraid you'd have wait at least a month and that if you're lucky but who knows, you might not even wait a week.
Speaking of the "pretty nice furniture" you bought a couple of years ago, you'd have to hang them on the wall lol! Cause as far as I know, compound apartments and villas are fully furnished (if u chose to stay in a compound that is).
40-50k for an off compound, single bedroom apartment?? That doesn't make sense. You should be expecting a range of 30k or less.

Hope this helped ;)

Thanks Senita - that's very helpful.  Interesting point about the compounds being mostly furnished - I didn't realize that.  If I can find a nice 1 bedroom off compound with decent facilities for 30k, I'd be pretty excited - that would be huge savings over what I'm paying here in Dubai.  Anyway - thanks for the feedback!
