Hello,

I will be traveling to Irbid in a couple weeks to study Arabic. I haven't been able to find anything online about recommended dress for non-Muslim women in Irbid, or Jordan in general. So I am hoping some of you may be able to help me! I don't want to offend anyone while living in Irbid.

To my understanding long skirts/dresses (below the knee) are acceptable as well as jeans or capris (again, below the knee.)Unfortunately, I haven't heard much about what is acceptable in terms of shirts.

Please share any thoughts/information on the subject. Or anything else that may be helpful to know before traveling to Irbid.

Thanks,
Jessica

Jordan, of the Islamic countries, is a very liberal place depending on your city of choice. Bigger cities like Amman or college towns like Irbid have all sorts of people and all sorts of method of dress. Use your discretion. You can get away with anything you like within reason, but test the water first. You'll get less (note I say less, not none) attention from the Jordanian males if you wear things that at least cover your shoulders and go to your knees. If you are Muslim and not a hijabi I do not advise wearing full hijab attire unless circumstances demand it; once you put it on in public and are seen by enough people wearing it, you can never take it off without ire. Btw Sherri, love you! :D
