Hi Rick,

Welcome to Expat-blog. I'm sure you will make a number of English speaking friends here at Expat throughout Brazil.

One thing that we all seem to have in common is that time-to-time we feel a bit isolated and lonely. There are a lot of foreigners here in Brazil, but if you don't have a lot where you work or don't know all the 'gringo' hangouts in the city where you live it can sometimes be a bit difficult to find them.

One suggestion that I would make is, once in Olinda / Recife drop by the reception desk at all of the language schools in the area, introduce yourself and ask if they have any native speakers teaching for them. If so, leave your business card (or several) and tell them that you are new in Brazil, interested in establishing new friendships and meeting other English speakers. Ask them to pass your card along to any of their teachers who are also looking to establish links with other English speakers.

Cheers,
