see original message when writing message replies?

Post new topic

ECS

I find it frustrating that when I select to reply to a message in my inbox, the original message isn't displayed on the same page as the reply field. When I'm answering someone it's usually some kind of question list, so it's handy to be able to see the original text while I'm responding. Currently I have to open two browser tabs so I can view both at the same time, and it's a bit tedious.

It's a good idea ECS, thanks for your suggestion.

We have noted it down.;)

Hi ECS,

You should select "Quote" to reply, you will see the original message when writing your replies. ;)

I don't want to send the original message back to them, just see the text- doesn't quote reply send it back too?

Christine

Got it :) Good idea, thank you for your suggestion.

I'll report it to the technical team

Hi ECS,

our PM system looks rusty indeed. We're currently busy on a couple of other features, I'll see if we can arrange something in the coming weeks.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion :)

Hi ECS,

Actually I think Christine's suggestion of using the QUOTE button isn't such a bad idea.

What I've been doing to see the received message is open it in two separate browser tabs, then reply to it in one and flip back to the other from-time-to-time to check it while replying. It's really fiddly.

I'm going to try the QUOTE method next time, you get to see everything on the same page that way. When you're finished typing your text just go back and delete out the QUOTE. Should work out just fine.

It is highly frustrating to get a reply with your original email "quoted" back to you.

A simple trail of emails would make life much easier and would appear more as a conversation that would make both parties more relaxed.

Also when 3 or more emails have been exchanged and the other party doesn't press quote, which then makes it look very messy, you still have to click on your sent box to see what you sent before, especially if it has been a few days or weeks since the last email.

I received an email today saying - hey, you have been quiet, how are you? I didn't have a clue who it was, what they were referring to or anything as I have to clear my emails on a regular basis as it gets full.

I've always just used the quote and then deleted it after I typed my message.

That happens all the time.  A lot of people seem to think we're going to remember what they said weeks or even months ago.

I once got a PM that simply said "well?"  I had no idea who the person was or what they were talking about, so I replied "deep subject".

Josnuggles

It's easier to have a trail.

But you have to know that as soon as it's in place, someone somewhere is going to complain about it and want it gone.

Less than the amount of people who want it.

You should start a poll.

I'm busy enough thanks

I just had a "reply" email from a message I'd sent ages ago.

I couldn't remember the original email or find it as I have to empty my mail box on a regular basis as it fills up.

A message trail is really needed here please

Julien

It's on our roadmap ;)

Sounds good

Is it also possible to have a draft folder?

I think this needs improvement as well.

James

Actually, I've just discovered the easiest way is open your message then click REPLY. Then you can use the back arrow in the navigator whenever you want to read the original message. When you front arrow back to your reply you haven't lost anything you've already typed.

Yes, I found this out a couple of days ago, before that it was not possible. Still it is much easier when you see the post where you reply to and when you can't finished it off is a draft folder very handy.
