Interesting to hear this from an Landsmann. 
My wife is from a town nearby Surigao (just around the corner). Have been in Surigao last time just two month ago and will be back in October for Fiesta, you know.
My explorations up to now led me in to the jungle (because my Madam has her coconut and teak plantation there), but Goldpanning is also an interesting activity for relaxing. But take care that the sun does not burn your last hair off.
