Hi all,
Just registered here. I got married in Gib many years ago....my wife and I fell in love with the place. We had our wedding at the St Andrews church, then reception at The Rock Hotel afterwards. Loved the place!!

I have been working in the broadcast and online industry (the two are getting more blurred) for the past 15 years, and recently managed a sales office for an online software vendor in India for 2 years, which wetted my appetite for more of the ex-pat lifestyle...and what would be a more perfect place than mini UK in the sun. My wife is a dentist so her job is easily transferable.

I have a meeting with Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation at the end of this month, and hoping to visit a few recruitment companies while I'm there, but I'm also now focusing on the online gambling sector too. I have had experience with online, having built my own website for the UK film industry - - filmnav.co.uk

I've also worked for other vendors that create software for online - never.no and - vizrt.com

I was also Brand Manager for BBC Sport, but I've not had any experience in the gaming industry, and just wondered if my skills are transferable to the gambling online industry.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated....

Hello SBarber.

Welcome to Expat.com!

In meantime, you can try to post an advert in the jobs in Gibraltar section. It can help.

Good luck,
Aurélie

I can recommend sending CV to Quad consultancy, Rock Consultancy and Pentasia. I think they are the most influential agencies on the Rock.

Hi there

I moved to Gib 18 months ago and initially didnt want to work as I could be financially dependent upon my husband.  However as time went on I was so bord as once you done the medsteps a few times and seen the caves and been out boating, there is not much to do on the rock.

I then registered with RecruitGibraltar who specialise in the sort of thing you are looking for I think, lots of online gaming, computer specialists etc.

They did tell me not to hold my breath as I was looking for PA, Secretarial, Admin etc but wanted part-time.  They were honest from the outset but really friendly.  They said it would be very doubtful as jobs are at a premium in these industries and part-time almost unheard of.  But after sending on several links to jobs which were unsuitable, they finally managed to get me my perfect job!  I work only a few hours a day and that is EXACTLY what I wanted.  I honestly cant recommend them highly enough.  Friendly chaps, honest and persevering!

You could give their website a look at RecruitGibraltar and if you are coming over, they are just off Irish Town, 1 minute from John Mackintosh Square.

Good Luck with the move x

Hi SBarber,

we might be in the same boat! I am a shortly to be made redundant HR manager with a teacher wife, we too want to live in Gib and have been awaiting the postman every morning with fingers crossed for the result of my wife's interview down there in Feb.. We've finally heard that she's been accepted but she needs to turn up in person to sign the contract and be allocated temp supply work, so we aim to arrive early Sept and rent for a while... In due course I may look for some agency work too, but not in any rush! For jobs, surf the web for agencies, there's one that specialises in on line gamimg, let me know if you need the name, I can dig it out out... Hopefully your skills put you at an advantage, but there's no substitute for actually going down on a visit...

Accommodation-wise I have to spoken to a few estate agents and got a reasonable idea of what you get for your money, but I really need to go there to see what the places are like in the flesh, location, location, location etc! Property is expensive to rent and buy - outer London prices, most property is not "on the open market" - there's a 3 yr residency requirement, let me know if you need more.... Best of luck. Nick.
