I'm new here. Planning to move to Malta. Hopefolly I'll manage to organize everything necessary. Thinking about coming there for 3mts to see if the grass is greener over there (just realize how weird it sounds...it's a Dutch saying). It's very interesting and usefull to read what you all wrote.
Looking forward to work out my plan.

Sahra :)

Groto

Well good luck! It is also a saying here in Australia!

NorahGoes

Didn't know that. Thank you :)
What's you're connection with Malta?

Groto

My father and his fathers before him were born in Malta. Most of my relatives are there. I am moving at the end of the year for twelve months with the view of staying permanently. Really excited about it but can't decide whether to live in Malta or Gozo
Do you have anyone there?

NorahGoes

Moving from one island to another huh? Sounds exciting, going back to your roots. Have you ever visited Malta?
Gozo is very nice as well, its more serene than Malta. I have a Maltese friend, but he's mostly anywhere but there.
Hope to make new friends when i'm there =)
Are you planning to work or study in Malta?

Groto

Well yes moving from a very big island to a very small island. I live in western Australia and it would take 36 hours non stop driving to get to the othe side, to the east coast!
Very different! I am not sure what I will be doing when I get there. I am not one to be idle for to long though.
I probably wont do to much to start with.  A lot of visiting with relatives I suppose. I have only been once and that was last year. Why do you choose Malta?

NorahGoes

Well..hard to explain. Lets say intuition, i had this feeling when i arrived in Malta i had to be there. And i follow! The feeling didnt change while staying there, and only been there for 5 days. Actually it became stronger.
Hope to find work though. I'm planning to go end of the year for a stay of 3 mths, unless i find a job. In that case i will give it a try for a year.
I'm specialized in the airline industry, which makes it hard to find anything in Malta. But not giving up though as the journey to moving there just started for me :)

Its a good idea to start slowly i guess, as it will give you time to get to know the environment.

Groto

Well good luck with your plans!  Hopefully you will find a job. I have no idea what the job market is like. I think 12 months for me will give me a good idea of what life will be like.

seen also malta airport? they had a vacancy

NorahGoes

Hi Mcecaro,

Sorry for my late reply..
Nice to meet you:)
No, i havent seen it. There are no vacancies on their website. Only the one on the etc site which was for marketing :/

When do you plan to go to Malta?

scubaboy

Phone them and Ask...

Malta International Airport and Airmalta are very much internal vacancies and who you know to get into them.  Although sometimes they do advertise, Ryanair were advertising lately for positions but I am unsure if this was on the website or not.

I would research the Airlines that are in Malta International and either write them or ring them

Julian

Hi Julian,

No ads on Ryanair website. Air Malta is not hiring, not going very well according to branch info : s. So it is trey you have to know the right people huh? Found a couple small airlines, just updated my cv and working on a good letter. Is it more appreciated to ring or write in Malta? In Holland, you better write, on the phone the answer is usualy no but you cam write. And they never reply..

Thnx for the tips though :)

scubaboy

Its realistically best to be in Malta and Apply, although the position you are applying for is a position that can be done over a few Skype interviews first.

In My opinion, a telephone call is harder for people to ignore, and you can apply yourself to the call i.e. your emotions and personality come out in telephone calls more than letter or email.

Julian

Toon

100% agree with scoobs.

NorahGoes

True...reading different things about the working culture but i guess i have to try my own way :)

Grazie mille

Groto

Hi paula i also live in ausralia. I would love to live in malta but i found the biggest problem was money. Everything seemed so expensive there. Also working over there didnt appeal to me. I dont know how the lockals survive. I lived in malta in 1974 to 1979 and it was so cheap then and also there was more to do then believe it or not

scubaboy

Money ?? Sorry Falcon but I think that you find that once you know where to go and how to buy then its not that expensive at all.

3 bed apartment in South - €300 a month
electric and water about €100 a month
500ml Beer €2
6 x 2.5 ltr bottles of water €2.89

Bus Ticket for the whole day getting on and off where ever you want €1.50 (Maltese ID card Required)

Average wages €12,000 - €14,000

Not that expensive and working here in my opinion is fine, actually a lot better than the UK for example.

Julian

georgeingozo

Also no council tax in Malta - overall I'd say Malta costs 20-30% less to live in than the UK, as long as you adapt to local life, and dont insist on buying exactly the same as you would in the UK

i am finding myself agreeing with you again george - this must stop....LOL
