Real Estate and expats

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to buy a house or a flat in Brazil as an expat with working visa. There are several countries in which is not allowed and some others who accept that with or without any condition.

Cheers.

James

There are no restrictions on buying property of any kind in Brazil. The only requirement is that the purchaser must hold a CPF number. This can even be applied for abroad at any Brazilian Consulate.

Property laws are very complex here and also one must be very wary of the fact that squatters rights are very strong here, you may end up buying property you can never occupy.

The very best advice is to make sure you deal with a reputable realtor and have a lawyer who specializes in real estate transactions look after your purchase.
