The Happy Migrant

I appreciate the tropical climate, the people, and the variation in landscape that this country (Australia) has ......

Julien

I appreciate so many things here in Mauritius ! Just today, I practiced scuba diving this morning, and spent hours on a lovely white sand beach this afternoon, swimming with tropical fishes. Week ends are definitely fantastic :)

NicoleB

I still have to figure most things out here in Egypt.
I am only here since a bit over a week.

I highly appreciate that we can go out in the evenings and sit at the mall and have a beer, chat with people and such things.

Sounds maybe profane, but since we didn't have that neither in Hungary nor in Kuwait, it's a really nice thing ;)

The Happy Migrant

Julien - That sounds wonderful! How could you not appreciate that.

Nicole - Sometimes there is nothing better than to enjoy something so simple as sharing a beer and watching the world go by....especially as you say, when you haven't been able to for a while

I love the fantastic multi-modal transit in London! I am not a slave to my car and can walk, take the bus, tube to get around town. Fabulous!

Fabiennehb

I enjoy everything that London has to offer: culture, festivals, easy transport...
After 3 years in boring Yorkshire, I'm alive again!

The Happy Migrant

mdrouse5 - Ah yes good transport....Australia is so vast that a car becomes necessary and I must admit I would prefer to walk everywhere if I could ....

wifeinasuitcase - Nothing quite beats the autumn colours! We found a place nearby where the leaves actually change colour and I love it....ahhh...

Fabiennehb - Glad you feel alive again!!!! Enjoy

Otir

I certainly appreciate the mentalities that are solution oriented rather than pessimistic when a problem or a difficult situation arises.

hot tubs everywhere, extremely clean (if windy) air, best tap water in the world, vast panoramic mountain views, northern lights, my awesome neighborhood.

I miss trees and reliable weather

What I like is our peaceful life.
It used to be hectic, with long commutes and not much time for anything. It all has changed and we really enjoy it!

Even after twenty years being here in Nepal...it is the mighty Himalayas. The panorama that nowhere ends...no matter where in the country you stay. This beautiful mountains so high...dwarfing everything in front of them. The seasons in Nepal change fast. They come and go like a whisper....the colors, the many different ethnic people with their distinguished cultures. There is no ethnic majority here....over 65 different indigenous tribes, their clothes, songs, dances, music instruments...all of it I love!

NicoleB

@sourire
Montreal would be a place I like too.
But I think it would get too cold for my husband (he's from Arizona)
;)

@grandpati
Nepal always fascinated me.
While in Kuwait we had guys from Nepal working as guards.
They always described the Beauty of the country and you could tell their love and longing for it :)

Best in Cairo...I have time!
We live in a compound so it means we need a car (and a driver) to go shopping etc. And the traffic is terrible!
I miss freedom of walking!
Originally from Helsinki, Finland, where public transportation is great and in the center of the city you can walk everywhere - to compare, this city is a nightmare!

But I love the sun! Light. This time of the year it's dark and rainy in Finland and here sunny - I don't miss this autumn-winter season in Finland at all!

I'm quite isolated but enjoying it now because this is not forever. I have time to take photos, read, connect virtually, study virtually etc.

Have a great day, all of you! :)

What I love about Panama...everything is green for pretty well most of the year!

hmmm, aside from what I dont appreciate :P

I love the peaceful time I can spend in the desert dunes, it's silence and vast space just capture's my heart, and I feel each second to the fullest, as fast as time flies by in a city day, in the desert the sands of time show you how long and peaceful a few minutes can be... its quite healing actually. :)

hmm, what else...

I suppose that should do for now :D

I have a lot of memories of good places and things I will miss about where I lived. I have come home again, New Glasgow NS CA.
I love the people they are friendly where ever you go. They smile and open doors for you. They let you into traffic. The beach is minutes away from my home. I can see all four seasons in one day if I drive threw NS. I am not entangled in the get there as fast you can life here, I am in the get there when you can life. No matter where my travels lead me I will always come back here.

Hello all expats in Dubai, I am new to this forum and we are considering moving the family to Dubai if my husbands secures a job there for 2 years. I would love to email someone who wouldn't mind me picking there brain for info about Dubai, particularly someone with children. We have three primary age children and a dog.  Love to make contact with someone outthere. Terri Mc (I live in Australia and only speak and read/write English).

Hello all,
I have been traveling in Switzerland this year and the landscape is really gorgeous. Mountains are really beautiful and the air is clean. Now, it is best time I like: Skiing.
Have a nice Christmas.

KUALA LUMPUR MALAYSIA
We are a Brit couple just retired, active and dyed-in-the-wool expats, worked abroad all our working lives on contracts, out of UK.

Now travelling in KL, I love the colourful cultures that interlock harmoniously here :Malay, Chinese and Indian ++. The city is dazzling - high-rise, lit up, busy all day and all night.

Rental apartments are cheap for a few months; travellers can easily get cheap back-packer to not-too-expensive hotel rooms.
The food and shopping is amazing - available 24/7. Banking is easy.

Friendly expat groups meet for coffee and a chat at least once a week - all nationalities represented. Lots of events to get involved with.
Negatives - Its hot and humid most of the time day and night around 30 degrees C. Cotton clothing is the most comfortable. You need a sixth sense to look after your stuff, some pickpockets and bag-snatchers here.
Leave valuables behind, just bring yourself, friend, camera and notebook!  AirAsia cheap flights. Emirates Ok but baggage allowance small - probably the same everywhere now since the air security stuff happening lately.

Have heard that cruises are really cheap now - interesting ones to take out of Australia - not so far from here.

After six years of living here in Turkey, I never tire of the view of Fethiye harbour and marina from our home. It's backed by hills covered in pine forest and stunning mountains that are covered in snow at this time of year.

The Turkish people are also fantastic. I get great pleasure from sitting on our balcony watching people cycling or walking past our house alone and singing at the top of their voices. This is a regular occurrence!

Turkish cuisine is fantastic and the fruit and vegetables on the markets is amazing - and cheap! I love the markets.

We have made many close life friends here as well - mainly Turkish but a few expats too. These friends are what I appreciate the most.

i appreciate the climate of Victoria (CAnada BC) the people who are open minded and so friendly. i appreciate the fact that you can walk in the street, smiling looking at other and say hi without receiving any odd looks

Okay, here in Riyadh, KSA, I love that I can wake up in the morning and not have to even consider the fact that it might be raining!

Another thing I love is--and this might sound like a small thing but when you live in Saudi, you learn to really appreciate the small things lol--the different fruit juices available at the markets!  I have just finished a large glass of pure strawberry juice while reading the forum.  In the US, it would have been strawberry 'drink' and 90% sugar water lol  HERE, however, 100% strawberry juice and so cheap (about $2 for 2 litres).  Wish I had a blender--think of the smoothies I could make!

wgoodman3

I love few traffic lights, walking to our little downtown's coffee shops, movie and restaurants, driving to hills, forests, ponds and views in only four minutes, and, of course, my friends.

What I love most about Vancouver is the natural beauty of the surroundings, and the helpfulness, tolerance and friendliness of the people.

I live in the UAE and I appreciate the nice weather during the winter, the culture, and the location.

I live in Australia and I LOVE the sense of humor the local people have... its great! Plus they are very welcoming and you can strike a conversation with anyone...

idontwannagohome

Far enough away from family I need to be far away from and close enough to family I want to be close to. With the one exception of my son who lives too far away in Boston.
There is a strong bohemian culture here (music and art)but too much racial tension.

Odd Duck

I appreciate tropical weather, the kindness and interest of my neighbors, the experience of living in a Muslim country & the willingness of my Islamic friends to teach me about their religion, and the ease of the local language. Especially that.

Being in Saudi Arabia for a "nearer to decade"

"Sea without waves" -- Sea itself shows the peace here
"Greens in between the desert" --- some makes planetarium
"Great food called Mandi or Kapsa with Faham" -- with out limit eating it.

I remember once we ate Mandi and chatted for more than six hours. The only non spicy, natural, healthy, non- high ingredients-- food makes great feel

the experiences and things i would never have learnt if  stayed at home. living in a 3rd world country has taught me to be soo much more thankful.
went to a ladys house, she showed me around, the rooms were almost bare. but the house was warm and there was enough food for everyone. She was so proud of what she had.

So much to be grateful for and appreciate here in Vietnam. The sights, sounds, the vibes, but mostly the people.
