Hey Guys! Have been reading your posts and these help me alot to be informed of how life in PNG particularly Lae is. I have been nominated for an expatriation assignment by Nestle Philippines there.
I would like to, initially, inquire or ask your suggestion of a nice, secure and safe compound/townhouse or apartment in Lae. Thank you, hope to hear from you soon!

NIKKI, LAG PI

hi! inputs from d blogs had been helpful indeed; but upon coming here, found out some things in actuality are sooo different..

for a win-win deal of Filipino expats coming to Papua New Guinea:

1) Salary NET of Tax, Utilities (Water & Electricity) and Food
  a) Tax for PGK 3500 & up ranges from 25%-42% of gross salary
  b) Tax for PGK 3499 & below ranges from 24-18%
*The higher the salary, the HIGHER THE TAX!

  c) Electricity is around PGK 400/month/person (aircon +
complete electrical appliances & hot shower)
  d) Water is around PGK 10-12/month/person
  e) Food for decent meals will cost PGK 50/day/person

NOTE: U may use PhP 18 / Kina exchange rate for reference
in computing for ur ACCEPTABLE NET SALARY PER
MONTH (ideally 3x of your rate in PI)

2) FREE fully-furnished SOLO ACCOMMODATION with Wi-Fi & Mineral
drinking water (drinking water is very expensive @ PGK 3-
4 per 600 ml. bottle of drinking water)FOR 1 PERSON

Corporate companies even provide an apartment w/ at least
2 rooms to accommodate your family if they come to visit you
in PNG (company pays for Spouse & kids' fares).

3) USD 25K Life/Accident & Medical Insurance (that POEA thing
    is NOT ENOUGH!)

An ideal coverage have you protected by a foreign insurance
company IN and OUT of PNG so that even when you unfortunately
have an accident or get sick while on vacation in the
Philippines, you CAN STILL RE-IMBURSE for your "abono"..

4) Paid Vacation Leave for 26 Days
Paid Sick Leave for 15 Days

Annual One Month(30 Days)Paid Vacation Leave

5) Open Line Digicel cellphone account is better; it works
like our postpaid cellphone plans in the Philippines. You'll
receive a monthly billing & the company pays for business
calls' usage + at least PGK 150 (not PGK 100) worth of
your PERSONAL calls or text messages..

You'll then be charged of your excess usage via one time SD
(Salary eduction) immediately the following payday.

Mobile expenses are very, very expensive here; especially
if u will be using it most of the time for business calls
within Lae City, to Port Moresby (POM) or to the Philippines.

   Cost is PGK 0.49/minute per text or call to the Philippines;

It's PGK 25/wk fixed cellphone load for 24hrs. internet
access only in your Blackberry or any handheld device.

Please feel free to send me email for any further queries,
it's very important that you NEGOTIATE WELL..Goodluck!
