I'm living in Banha, Egypt waiting for my Egyptian husband to get his visa so we can go back home to Australia... We've been here 3 months and I'm very lonely and bored! Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat?!? :/

NicoleB

Sorry to hear you are alone and bored.
I am lucky that there's a lot of Expats around in Sharm.
Have had already contact with a few of them.
Did you have a look around online, maybe you find someone in your region too?

I go out by myself a lot too (with the dogs) and just explore the area by foot and with my camera. It helps me to keep my mind busy too.
I post the pics to my blog for my friends to see, map them on a google earth map, so they get a better idea of where I am at.

Just a few ideas ;)

Best wishes to you!
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for answering my blog, I am very new to blogging, well, actually its my first time! haha... Its a bit confusing, i'm trying to read people's posts and can't seem to find them...

Unfortunately I didn't come over as an expat and don't live in an expat area, which is making my time here a bit difficult. I'm currently living in a little farming village and absolutely no one speaks english except me and my husband.

I've been trying to find things on line to do, even some volunteering, but everything is in Cairo and my husband said its to hard for me to go alone and i'd get lost... which is probably true... (Its about 1hr away from us - maybe 2 in the traffic).. And i really DO want to live.. haha (the driving here is scarey)

I don't really go out by myself, i probably could but everyone stares at me which makes me feel really uncomfortable.. I know they don't mean any harm but it sort of makes me feel like an alien in a foreign land. I guess I just have to try and get over that!

I am on facebook so all my photo's are on there for my family and friends to see.

Anyway, thank you for replying and giving me some ideas

Racquel :D

Hi Racquel :)

Well, this whole thing here is actually what's called a forum.
People's blogs you will find when you go to their profiles and from there to the blogs.

This place we use to share Infos, talk to each other, ask questions, find new people and whatnot.

Ouch, the "no english" part sucks. And it's not like Arabic is exactly an easy language to learn :(
At least you won't be there forever. If I get it right you both will go to Australia once he gets the Visa approved?

Driving over here in Sharm is already scary, but people told me that it's nothing compared to Cairo.
Maybe you could find some online jobs? Not easy and def. not well paid, but maybe worth a try.
I found also a few Sites where you can learn Arabic for free. If you care, I'll post the links?

Are the women out and about in the town you live in?
If they are, just go out and greet them nicely in Arabic.
The men, I'm not so sure about, since the village is probably (most likely) very traditional and that could be taken the wrong way.
The more you show yourself out there (if the women are out generally), the less they will stare, I bet.
I know, it's hard. It took me a long while to ignore stares and rude comments and more often than not it still irks me to say something rude,....and I'm not blonde - I bet it's even tougher for you ;)

Well, I hope you find some clues and ideas.
Let me know, if I can help or whatnot ;)

Cheers and best of Luck,
Nicole
