after 8 days the life will be different here in kuwait because of the holy month ( ramadan )

they count it according to the moon , they have another date which depend on the luner year

it is a religuos month for muslims who fast in it from the dawn till the sunset
that mean you will not see anyone eat or drink at the day
and that mean you will not find any reastaurant or coffee shop open before the sunset

the law here doesnt allow for any body to eat in puplic places day
so be careful to not get in troubles , i don't think that will punish who are not muslims but its better to be aware from this

the work houers will be changed and people will stay late and wake up late also
they will concern about thier food too much :)

hope that you get an idea about it

I'm excited about the shorter work hours. But I hope I will  be able to not eat, drink or chew gum in public due to my forgetfulness. Maybe I will just have a huge breakfast, then not eat during the day (except water and granola bar in my office) until I go back home. I respect the people that can and do fast. I, however, get fainty when I don't eat.

:)     it is not that much
you chew a gum i don't you should take it like this but only try to not not do it infront of policemen

I am flying to Kuwait on Friday for an interview, can you please tell me - do I have to wear long sleeves even though I'm a non-Muslim?

I am ok with not eating in front of everybody so I don't offend them but I am a bit afraid of wearing that much clothing on the temperatures you are having now...

dont afraid wear what ever you want nobody will say any thing

good luck :)

Thank-you for your post. This will be really useful for those expats who are non muslims and new in Kuwait. Although, i'm in Bahrain, and what you mentioned applies here too. So i'm guessing this applies to the Gulf region too, yes?

Thanks again for the useful post.. :thanks:

Thanks, so I will be fine in jeans and a T-shirt to get off the plane and for interview to wear classic black pants with nice short sleeve blouse?

I know it might sound a bit ridiculous to ask these kind of questions but I just don't want to break any laws or social conventions.

:D
