Hello Everyone,

I am interested in moving to Senegal. I am an African-American Muslim woman who currently lives in Austin, Texas, USA with my husband and  2 1/2 year old twins. I spent my formative years in Nigeria while my mother worked for the World Bank and my father worked for Heinkel. I have such fond memories and it has always been my dream to return to Africa someday with my own family. I have been doing research on Senegal and it really strikes me as a very beautiful and peaceful place to live. I currently work as a Project Manager for a large hospital network and my husband works at Dell but we are open to exploring new employment opportunities. I would appreciate any advice that would ease our transition.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

Malaika

Welcome to Senegal, the land of eternal sun!

I'm so glad to read your post to see how foreigners can appreciate my home country.
For employment, I would suggest to get in touch with the USAID office in Dakar
http://senegal.usaid.gov/node/31

West African research Center:
http://www.bu.edu/wara/warc/

The US Embassy, Dakar:

For learning local languages and meeting fellows:
Africa Consultants International:
http://www.acibaobab.org/

One of the best ways for you and your husband to get a good job there is in my eyes by getting hired by US Consulting Groups implementing USAID financed projects in Senegal. In a private email, I can introduce you to some former American colleagues...

Hope this would be of a help!

Best regards
