Hi

I want to buy a decent second hand car here in Hungary i ve been working here for 5 years, i wonder how are the formalities.
I may also need a small amount of credit to finance it, any one did it before? What kind of papers should be submitted, where is better a bank or using the car dealers financing options??
Being a non-EU citizen i guess things are much harder but crossing fingers...

Another issue is that I have a Turkish B class driving licence, can i use it here or do i need to get a new one for EU?
If yes what to do about.

Any help is appreciated thanks in advance

Hi,

There are lengthy threads about cars in Hungary, read those too.

Let me just say I am local and paid a car mechanic friend to buy us a used car...

You can at least gauge the prices here:
www.hasznaltauto.hu

There was a topic about getting the drivers license as well (you'll definitely need one and it will definitely cost you.)

The loan is a new element. Dealerships (best avoided in general) have the worst loans. Regular banks also /!\ I AM A STUPID SPAMMER /!\ on third-party purchases with slightly better conditions.
If the sum you need is small enough, a personal loan might work as well, or just wait and save (gives you more time to hunt for a better deal as well.)
Also don't assume you'll get anywhere near the price you pay for the car when you'll have to sell it when you leave the country. The price difference may pay for daily taxi rides :-/

About aquiring a driving license read this :

https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=172107

The only difference is you dont need to take lessons but they will ask you to do the theory exam and most likely also the driving test again to get your turkish license exchanged for a  hungarian license because Turkey is non-EU and also didnt sign the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic.

Extra, you will also have to provide an official translation of your turkish license.

About the hungarian used car market : nightmare. Usually overpriced cars in bad condition. You need to search a long time or better import a car but you need to pay registration fees for that but thats a topic on its own...
