Compounds in Saudi

michaelpakenham

Hi

My names michael and I shall be coming over to Saudi soon. My employer still hasnt told me where I will be sent but I have a housing allowance of 2750 SR per month. Is that enough to get me into a western compound?

Cheers

Michael

33,000/year.  That isn't much.  Maybe for a studio/1-bedroom in a compound with limited amenities?

Hi Michael, Unless you want to put the extra in from your salary you need to negotiate at least double what they are offering. There are 1 bedroom studio apartments on my compound, but they are 60,000SAR. If you want to bring your family out, a 3 bedroom villa is at least double that again. Employers know this but still will not pay the extortionate costs the compounds demand. We have recently moved to a cheaper compound precisely because the compound we were on is increasing their rent by 20-30% per year, with no justification other than they know companies have to pay to get the right staff here. The compound we are on now is far superior to what we had and is a lot less money. So I don't understand why the rent was so high on our last compound, other than pure greed.

Best of luck and welcome to the Magic Kingdom:)

Absolutely NO doubt he can get an apartment.  But he asked about a compound--and Western, to boot!

A Compound seems to be out of reach with tis limited resources !! I think around 50K, you might have some luck !! :)

The housing allowance being offered is ok for an apartment outside of a compound but not a compound and definetly not a Western compound.
