Hi everyone, I'm Laura, 29, English and will be moving to Istanbul in August.

My future employer has gone (suspiciously) quiet on me of late but I'm due to be working at a school in Levent.

Any suggestions which part of the city I should live in for an easy commute? Levent itself doesn't look very beautiful or atmospheric but I don't want to spend hours on public transport each day either.

Apart from this forum and Craig's Lovely List, where else should I be looking for a room for a month when I first arrive? I can worry about long-term accommodation when I know the place a bit more.

Thanks all, look forward to hearing from you

You can find a place in Beşiktaş which is only one vehicle taking away from Levent.Have a good day.

Hi Laura,

I work in Levent and live in Besiktas which, as pug106GTi says above, is just one 20-minute bus/mini-bus/taxi ride away. I like it here; it's a lively area in a good location near the bosphorus.

Taksim, the main area for nightlife, is only about 15/20 minutes away on the metro, and there are plenty of ex-pats living in Cihanger (near Taksim station).

There are (slightly) more rural places a bit more of a commute out of town; depends what you're looking for.

Enjoy Istanbul! :D

Hello MrsMonkey,

Actually i am living in Levent but the point is there are few parts of Levent. I guess you'd like the part where i am living with my hubby and 2 yrs old toddler daughter.

Please don't hesitate to drop me few lines anytime you need to ask anything about everything :):)

Good Luck..
