Apartment issues

Okay, so I moved into my apartment a week ago and now there are weird things on the ceiling of my hall and spare bathroom. What are there (in picture) and how do I dispose of them?

Are they alive? Do they move?

Jaitch

Contact the Landlord - rented premises are supposed to be inhabitable.

It doesn't matter what they are - justy get a can of something from the Co-op, they seem to kill most moving objects, even the ones that come up the sink and basin waste pipes!

The dangerous ones usually look weird or have bright colours. Just don't swat them with your bare hands. Do what Canucks do, whack them with a shoe.

There is one night flying bug that loves ears, at least ear holes. If it stings you you have a problem. Local clinic recommended saline water as a way to persuade them to leave.

Perhaps you have a biology book in your library.

P.S. Turning the air--con high and making it feel like Kapuskasing in the winter slows bugs down and makes them easier targets.

Thanks guys...seriously freaked out...

I really can't tell from the pictures, but if it's one of these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gecko

give them really nice names because ya'll going to be good friends for awhile. We have a few running around our house. Their harmless.

Aescleah

I just took the vacuum to them all, and even it's not in the apt anymore (balcony, after I cleaned it out). Think that'll end it? There isn't a one left in here...never actually saw a bug btw, just the weird hanging things...

Budman1

I would tender to guess the reason you haven't seen any bugs is because of the "hanging things" you just ate with the vacuum cleaner was taking care of them.

It looks like a cocoon for some kind of flying moth or bug.... Hard to tell from that picture.

If you have gecko's running around leave them be, they eat all the other annoying bugs flying ro crawling.

I think I'd be better off living in a hermetically sealed bubble...fingers crossed this is the end of it.

How can I attract geckos to my apartment? I love them!

Jaitch

At certain times of the year flying bugs increase.

You're Canadian, so you've got to be familiar with bug coils. They are on sale at all supermarkets. They will  keep all the flying pests away from your apartment - I stick mine on the balcony.

The smoke/fume zone is quite sufficient to keep all the bugs away.

BTW, RAID - the bug pray - is made in VietNam by Johnson & Johnson and uses safe-for-humans chemicals and the propellant gas is 'green'.

If you have Gecko's - those light coloured 'newts' are your friend - they l-o-v-e eating bugs. Don't touch them - they are self-regulating, the big ones eat the small ones when they get hungry.

If you ever go camping in VN and sleep in a hammock, when you wake up in the middle of the night, before getting down. you have to shine your flashlight around.

You will most likely see your flashlight reflected in ten's of pairs of  eyes - all the critters looking out for you!

That's it, I'm never going outside again...

You don't have to, the outside is coming in!

Where is Canada are you from? Unless you are from the Yukon, the bugs here in VN are little different than those found back home.

At least they don't have black flies here. Or raccoons.
