Hi,

Is thee any English people who have done their Egyptian ID recently at Mongamma? If so could you let me know what you had to take with you? Also if you have done it can you tell me how long that it has taken, for you to receive the ID? I have been in Egypt for nearly 13 years I have been married for over 10 years and I am on my 3rd 5 year visa.  Thanks in advance for you helpwith this.

You mean asking for the Egyptian nationality. I think you can do that in El Tur, same office as for the residence visa. What I have read is that after the paperwork is complete, it will take 2 years.
But why would you apply for the Egyptian nationality? Maybe in the future your country will change the rules, like dual nationality to only one nationality. What will you choose then? You have a western nationality (according to your profile you are British) that is of "more value" for getting visas or travelling without visa, for example in Europe.

Providing a statement every 6 months proving that the marriage is still valid, to be signed by both husband and wife at the Consulate

Egyptian Nationality isn't the easy to get even in Marriage!!

Tawfikmaxine

Hi thank you for that information. You have to go to Mongamma to get the nationality as you can't do it in el tur.

Has anyone actually done this and already received the nationality?

BS: It's Mogamaa' there's no "N"

i gave the Egyptian Nationality to my ex-wife,after our marriage she obtained the 5 years visa under my name, then we had to fill an application, pay the fees and exactly after 2 years she got her Egyptian id & passport without any kind of problems.

I went to Mugamma to make a residence visa but one offices wrote a letter and sent me with it to el Abasseya to the Civil Register, there they issued my egyptian birth certificate (altough I was born in Spain) and 10 days later had my ID and a new name. But I did not get the nationality from my husband, but from my dad (eventhough he lives in Europe and lost his egyptian nationality when he got married to get the spanish nationality some decades ago).

In the case of Spain I may loose the spanish nationality, but it is easy to get back, just by renouncing to the egyptian one.

Good luck!

I guess for burocratic reasons, but it does state where I was born.

It was obligatory, egyptian names are composed by the surname following the 4 names of the father and in spain surname, father/mother family name and father/mother family name (parents may choose which one goes first, the mothers or the fathers). As I got the nationality from my father I had to comply with their normative. But my spanish name is still the same.

I dont think it is like this if you get the nationality from your wife/housband.
