Negotiating salary in Norway - is it done?

Hello all,

I am wrestling with deciding on a job offer located in Norway. Currently I reside in the USA. I am not very familiar with the Norwegian work culture, but was wondering is it generally accepted to negotiate salary once given an offer from a Norwegian company? It is quite typical to do this in the USA and many other countries.

This is really based on the fact that my current salary is higher and the position would be doing similar work in Norway. This is a technical job with a specialized skill.

How did you get on in the end? I was offered a role in Norway last week & have begun negotiations over the salary & am waiting to hear back from the company.

Where in the US are you? I assume you know about the high tax rates and high cost of living in Norway, personally I would want to receive a bit more to compensate for this. (I'm Norwegian, with a sibling in the US, so know a bit about both)

Many companies here have pretty strict payroll scales based on diploma and experiences, especially the large ones but some others are more flexible. It's pay off negotiating, especially if you have some sought skills
