Hi walkedtheline,
First of all YOU ARE IMPORTANT to Expat-blog. Everyone is so please get that idea out of your head.
I don't know what country's forum your post was made in nor the content of the post but I can assure you that all posts that are moderated do take some time. The Expat-blog Team is very busy. I am not connected with the blog per se, I am a volunteer Animator, just another member like you and at times they take days to answer my direct messages - they're really that busy. So don't just assume that the posting was rejected. Give it some more time.
If you believe that the posting was 'censored' by a moderator or that you are being deprived of stating your own opinion you have a right to be upset and complain. I will be one of the first people to stand by your side in your defense.
I do not know any of the details of the 'warning' as you put it that the moderator gave about the postings but would certainly love to have more information. Was there actually a title above the person's photo like there is above mine? If not it was a case of misrepresentation. The whole concept of Expat-blog is the free exchange of ideas and opinions, unless they are obscene, abusive, or somehow illegal then nobody at Expat would ever interfere.
Please if you can find that comment by bringing up the topic on your computer, copy the link and send it to me in a private message. I really want to find out what is going on here, because it shouldn't be happening.
As for the treatment you have received in my home country I hardly know what to say. It makes me ashamed of being a Canadian because that is completely against everything that my country stands for and everything I've been taught since I was a child. We are not supposed to dicriminate against people in any way and most of us don't.
That is not to say that nobody in Canada does, which is very sad to admit. Please think about the other side of the coin, how many people in Canada also treat you well. I think you will see that THEY are in the majority, or at least I hope so.
I left Canada for Brazil in January 2002, just shortly following 9/11 so I really can't say what the sentiment about people who originate from the middle-east is there nowadays. I can tell you that unfortunately in the USA the situation is very bad in this respect. Here in Brazil it is also quite bad, not so much because of 9/11, but because just over a year ago, a Brazilian man who was a member of an Islamic 'cult' and I use the word cult because it was not a sect in the religious sense, but a bunch of wackos who had terror in mind... anyway he went into the school he used to attend and shot and killed 12 young boys and girls. Here too, there is now a lot of prejudice. Nobody deserves to be treated badly, or discriminated against and shunned simply because they look different, may be terrorists........NOBODY.
I hope that you will understand my feelings and accept my heartfelt apologies on behalf of some of my countrymen who may have mistreated you. It is shameful.
Please keep in touch, send me a private message with the link to the topic you tried to add your response to, and the so-called warning that the other members were given. I would also be very interested in seeing the content of your message that you tried to post and has not yet appeared. If you would send that to me in a private message it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
William James Woodward - Brazil Animator, Expat-blog
