Hi All,

I am currently in process of interview with few firms in KL and I am not sure about the avg. salary and cost of living in KL.

I would be moving with my wife and 1.5 year twin babies.

By profession, I am a Software Engineer/Technical Consultant from Karachi Pakistan and would be living Decent life. I don't go to bars/club and don't drink either. Would prefer to live in a 2 bed room apartment/flat and would be using public transport.

How much should I demand ? Is 9k going to be enough ? Also, what is the best area to live in my office is located in mid valley?

Thanks

Aurélie

Hi how long is a piece of string? Yes you can live off 9k (gross don't forget tax) but medical transport and child care/ kindergarten fees are are expensive. Assuming your company pay medical for you and family, and you wife looks after the kids' and you cook at home then can.

It isn't a big salary - but salaries are far less than 10 years ago when 25k could t get a decent project manager for IT projects - i know as i had to hire people. But then happened the great depression 2.0 and salaries are down everywhere (in london i met my first unemployed imdian it person in 2008 - thought i would never see the day lol) but does depend on experience. KL is first world price in many things now. Many things are more expensive than London like designer shoes etc so depends what you mean by decent!

yea i lived in KL before and i had some pakistani friends who was my ex colleague working together in australian firm. depending how you spend your money. for example a meal can cost range from RM 4.00 to RM 150.00 per pax depending how your lifestyle is. if you dont mind eating at a food court(open) or a hawker stall during the lunch time break from work or you can opt to go for high class dining place, it can cost you a bomg. same goes to accomodation and things like that. having a transport is no problem but you gotta to deal with the jam expecially in KL business commercial area, now roughly i can say it covered up almost entire area in KL. traffic hectic jam is a REALITY LIFE in KL, you had to face it if you choose KL as your home especially on the MRR2 highway route, LDP highway/Expreswway and Federal highway. So depending which location you stay, you almost caught with jam everyday. Some places like Taipan Subang Jaya satrted to develop traffic jam as early as 6.30AM morning even before the sun rise!!

hope this infor doesnt scare you.

by the way

good luck to u

by the way, just to add a few things here.. there are certain prices are fixed by the government all over malaysia, prices like petrol RON 95 unleaded is RM 1.95 per litre(last year). i dint know the latest coz for a sometime i didnt do any driving.
price of grocery items such like sugar, salt, eggs wheat powder, certain canned foods, rice and others fall under the category of controlled priced items.

hope the infor suffice to you

Hi,

As you are an experienced in Software you can demand an ample amount of salary in KL.  You can get a single/double bed room portions for RM2500.00 (2+1 in advance).

You can ask for salary based on your experience.
