Where should we make our base

Post new topic

I am looking for suggestions where my husband and I should make our base for 3 months in India. We are 60 and if possible wish to scuba dive, hike and sail as well as learning all we can about this country. Our aim is not to travel a lot but to concentrate on the region where we are based.

It is not so important that we dive. My main reason is to get to know the country and people. Where would you suggest I make a home for 3 months. Thank you for any information.

Hi. I'm American and my husband is Indian. I've been to India three times and have visited Allahabad, Kolkata, Delhi, and Chandigarh. Chandigarh may be a good place for you because it is a nice with all amenities. It is about 4 hours from Delhi by train and about 2.5 hours to Shimla which is a very beautiful hill stations in the Himalayas. There is also a  national park which is not far off called Govind Pashu National Park. It is close to Dehradun and Mussoori both of which are in the Himalayas. Since it is in North India, it does not get extremely hot or muggy, but it will still get hot during the summer and it also gets cold in the winter.

I would also suggest Bangalore, Hyderabad, or Chennai because I hear they are nice cities. I dont know much about them though.

I hope you have a nice time.

Hi Dear, I am an Indian living in Mumbai. It is depend on you that which part of India you want to visit. Because Every part (North, South, East and West) is very different from each other. if you want to visit, south India - then you stay at Bangalore from there you can cover all four south Indian states (Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Kerala). If you want to visit - north India - then Delhi or as already suggested Chandigarh will be good place to stay to cover North Indian states ( Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Delhi, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir). For East India - Kolkata and for North and Central India - Mumbai. For South and part of north-central India - "Goa" is a good option as lot of foreigners are there.

For more info, you can use google or Indian govt. tourism website.

Have a nice trip to India.

Regards,

Kapil
