DEPENDS if you want to eat out a lot could be more.

This was a budget from someone recently on the forum.....

Food is where most of the money goes, but we grow alot of our own veg in summer, and do compotes and preserves for the winter. Which helps to cut the costs down.

We can go out for a meal for the three of us, and we can all eat well, and drink enough. meal out with drink20-30 lev for the three of us.     £10

It is cheap to live, cheap to drink and cheap for bills. But I have been to varna, and bourgas and busier tourist parts of Bulgaria, and spent three or four times what i do in my area, on a beer.
So it really depends, on where you want to be, in Bulgaria.

Comparing cost of living is tricky at the best of times as it involves not only basic items but many a personal choice too.
Moreover, it wholly depends where you live, in town, at tourist destinations or very rural.
As it happens, Bulgaria on the whole is very reasonable indeed apart of the many things that are imported such coffee, chocolate, jam, clothes, shoes and many an item. Sometimes even items that one would not think such as Milk. God only knows why for example milk seems to come lorry loads from Germany.. Don't they have cows in Bulgaria?

But this link may help to get an idea and make it somewhat easier to compare

do the utility bills get charged at the same rates to other nationals as they do to local nationals?

beahor

You kidding???
It is just an address and who cares who lives in it never mind the nationality.
There is no such thing as prices of locals v others, that is just insane! This is not a third word country!!!

No am not kidding -the reason for the question is - as that is the way it is here in Malta for thousands of ex pats living here

No, this is not at all an issue here at all.
Besides, it would not matter as officially, its my landlords name on the bill, as on all my utility bills, and I just receive and pay it
