How to be environmentally responsible - any ideas?

Post new topic

Today, I did my weekly shop at Tamimi's.

I now have a dozen new carrier bags, used once, taking up room in my bin, and soon destined for a landfill in the desert.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to re-use shopping bags at supermarkets? I thought of just taking some used ones and asking the packers to use them, but have never seen anyone else do likewise and don't feel too happy about holding up a queue while I explain what I want to the guys in blue overalls. In the UK, I typically used one or two shopping bags a year for groceries, and as you pack your own in the UK, there was never an issue at the checkout. Here in KSA, I use ten to twelve a week.

Same at Euromarche--it's like a bag per item!

But never fear :D  I know people who bring canvas bags to the food stores and since you are environ. conscious (BRAVO!) you could do the same :)

this is what I personally do :

I bought this long time lasting plastic shopping bags from my home country (3 ) and I always take them with me every time I am heading to the supermarket. I think last time I took the store plastic bags home with me was like 16 months agao

Umm ... interesting ... do you give your plastic bags to the packers or pack your own?

This sounds promising!

another trick is wherever possible avoid plastic containers for example buy juices water beer jam  in glass or metal can containers instead of plastic ,cereal bisquits ... in paper catons instead of plastic bags . I dont know about u guys but I have a problem to explain to packers how i want my shopping being put into bags ,you need a lot of patience to be green ,its not about bags its about people is harderst . but its possible if u really want

Harry,

I always pack my groceries myself

muslima,

glass and metal are both more expensive than plastic.those greedy corporates DO NOT care about the environment and always go with the cheapest alternative
