HCMC Hotel - First Stop

Post new topic

Anh Map

I'll be arriving in a couple of weeks.  Any suggestions on a hotel to start off with?  Just something simple and in reasonable proximity of the ESL school area(s).

Just need a place to begin the search, not the place to stay long term.

In the past I've stayed in D1.  From what I recall, that's not where I want to be this time.

Thanks!

Hi

I am living in Go Vap Dist. which is very near Tan San Nhat airport. You can ask taxi drivers to show you a cheap hotel to stay in this district. There is one hotel called Hon En (next to my house) and I saw many foreigners stay there for their short visits. ILA, a foreign language center is also near to this place.

Cheers

Go Vap? That's way off the area you should be in.

Try looking for a room in Pham Ngu Lao Ward - the backpacker slum. It's downtown, near a major bus station and full of Foreigners.

When you locate a job you can move in to a more salubrious area. But not Go Vap!

Check: < www.diadiem.com > for the difference between downtown and GV. Besides what international schools are in Go Vap?

If you aren't bringing too many pumpkins and want to save money, there is even a bus to downtown but most people grab a Vinataxi at the domestic terminal.

When you collect your bags in international, change about USD$20 at the Money Exchange near the front door.

Exit the building, TURN RIGHT, walk all the way to the end. CHANGE BAGGAGE CARTS. The follow the covered pathway around to the next terminal and you will see cabs lined up. CHOOSE THE YELLOW VINATAXI - the are safer and more honest.

The meeter and greeter will give a business card and tell the driver where you want to go. These cabs have good controls on them - the meeter/greeter radios dispatch and advises your destination.

You want Bui Vien Street - plenty of economical hotel choies. Always check the room before renting.
