From Barcelona to Salzburg

Post new topic

Hi there!
I am a new member of the Expat.com community. I am living in Salzburg (Austria) for almost 3 years now. I came from Barcelona (Spain). I learned about expat-blog by surfing randomly the web and I liked very much the idea of it. So here I am!
Cheers!
Toni :)

Hola tonicito!

Has it been complicated to learn Austrian? Is it complicated to get a job there?

Have a good day,

Julien

Hi again, and thanks for your replies!

I got my job here from Barcelona. An old colleague of mine started his own company and told me if I would come. And here I am. I think it is not so difficult to get a job here, but you must definitely speak German. Otherwise, let's say that not everyone will be so nice to you when asking for a job... :/

About learning Austrian dialect... Well, I learned German for one year before coming, and as I arrived I thought something was wrong with my language school! I could not understand a word! Not only on the street (I expected that) but also on TV, on the news, nothing. They have quite a strong dialect here, and it is really a challenge for anyone learning German. I'm here for almost three years now, and am just beginning to be able to follow a conversation among Austrians!

See you soon!

That's funny, I learn german there and for me, it's just easier to understand german. I never thought that it was hard to understand for someone speaking Schriffdeutsch.
