Post new topic

We moved here to Romania with such high hopes and now it seems that things are falling apart. We moved here from the US to be with my husbands father and work for him. We got here and the job we came for is not happening so we are waiting while my husband works construction. He hates this. He does not know construction yet he is making more then the superviser, He feel guilty about that. We are waiting for a job opening up in about 2 months that my husband can do but things happen so slowly here and until thn he is working on the apartment building. He is upset and getting depressed that he is not familer with the job but making so much money and wondering why we are here and what will happen job wise for him. His dad and his wife travel a lot and when they are here they are so busy. We can't speak the language and cannot seem to locate an instructer. Plus were lonley. It is effecting all of us including the kids. This unhappiness...Is this part of culture shock. This homesickness we are feeling. We do like it. It is very beautiful and the people are wonderful but We didn't realize this would be so hard. I could use some advice and encouragement please....

Living far from home has always been complicated, and feeling depressed sometimes is part of it I think. For how long have been in Romania now?

Remember that your life is yours, and you can always drive it in the way you want. I might not be very easy as you don't speak the language, but you should definitely find activities with local. Maybe you could participate to an association? Do you meet other women at your children's school?

Have to tried to learn Romanian? That is a first step to feel better I think. Even if it's hard at the beginning, you'll get a lot of satisfaction with your language improvements.

I hope your husband will get his new job soon.

And go out more often! Enjoy the local life! I am sure you've got a lot of things to discover!

Another possibility is to try and find the local branch of the International Womens Club, they have a global website...there will be a crowd of North American and Britsh women, as in English speakers, along with a whole bunch more.  They may have a play group set up, they will have sources about language lessons, and there will be people there who can relate to what you are going through....

Good luck and hang in there, it is hard sometimes...

So, how are you doing now?  Is it getting any better?
