Hi,

Been in Riyadh almost a year now am working as a nanny , I have met a couple of people here but It would be good to broaden my horizons and meet others,  unless your in the know or living on a compound I have not found it easy to meet up with others and socialise, so I thought  I would give this site ago and hopefully make some friends and find out if there are events going on,  am originally from the north east of England  have varied interest always willing  to try new things, easy going and don't  take life too seriously. Any others interesting in meet ups or who know of any up and coming social events please contact me. Thanks!

After receiving a number of messages from rather seedy men, I would like to make it clear that I am looking to meet people, maybe join groups and attend events and  socialise nothing more!!!

Martin Fin

Have sent you a PM!

Guest7982

Thank you!

Hi Northern....Northern lad here from Manchester......well not so much a lad anymore.
Anyways after 19years living/working in Dubai i am relocating to Riyadh over the next couple of weeks. Been doing some ground work re accom and the whole kinda 'what goes on stuff" and spotted your add.............As you so kindly put it i am also only seeking some decent company and a little social scene to at least get some civilized engagement with other humans. So if you fancy a meet up/coffe then i look forward to hearing from you and i'll be in touch when i have relocated
Kind regards
Steve

Hi  Northenlass welcome to the blog ''don't sweat it'' you will broaden your horizons with this valuable blog you are in the right place. Before you know it you will be surrounded by a network of expats alike.hang in there woman. About the ''seedy men'' they are everywhere but it shouldn't discourage you! Read this https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=17064
Cheers

Guest7982

Martin is fine don't judge without meeting.

Hopefully this message won't be interpreted as me being seedy but yes im a dude, and to be very frank, The ratio of men to woman that I know here in Riyadh is abismal, so yes my intentions of writing to you is broadly based on the fact that ur a lace. So now that u have that to ponder! ;)  allow me to hospitably extend a completely friendly invitation to join me for a "drink" pool side at my humble compound (and allow me to clarify that it is mostly inhabited by foreigners and is generally a safe and relaxed atmosphere).

Regards,
Hopefully your not so seedy friend

Dear northern lace,

I regretfully accept your choice of blocking me from pm'ing you, but solely out of curiousity could you explain why?

Guest7982

Your so right Elaine but it is easy enough to ignore them! Which is exactly what i do! Though on the plus side i have been contacted by some very good people too and am most grateful to them for the friendship, help and support.

there has to be a filtering mechanism whereby through first 15 posts of a new member you can judge the intentions.

My wife joined expat-blog and would you blv she got 20 PM's asking for friendship.. she dint had any profile pic.

To evade the dating element, something needs to be done.

I totally agree! Even though i  have made it very clear in my post still i get PMs from single guys wanting more than friendship! to be honest if possible i would have this topic removed now, as i have met some good people and got the infomation i required.

Closing the thread won't help. The actual problem has to be addressed

Guest7982

Well i am not IT expert so  no idea how you can stop guys sending PMs. I will continue to just ignore and delete such PMs

Lets see what solution EB teams come up with.
we can support them to make EB even more of a pleasant experience.

Hello,

Do not forget that you can use the "report" button, so that we can identify the person causing trouble.

If you have suggestions concerning the blog, please feel free to start a new thread on forum "Help us improve the website "

Let's try to stay on the initial topic "Looking to socialise and meet people." ;)

Thank you,
Melissa
