Buying a mattress

Hi all. I really want to buy a sleigh bed - soooo love the design. Do u think it will be possible to hv the "sleigh" made and then buy the mattress separate? Or do all mattresses come with a base?
Sorry if this sounds silly but I've never bought a bed or mattress before

ha ha ha .... I guess its Christmas spirit tht's talking there. Mattress sounds to be a smaller issue if u can first find such a bed here....

Ho ho ho. Actually I've seen the sleigh bed in a number of stores. But only double beds. I was looking at getting a super king size, but not sure if I would be able to buy a separate mattress for it? Or if a mattress automatically comes with a base?
