Happy new year everyone! hope it was a good night!

I actually have a question that I have been meaning to ask Canadians.

I am very interested in finding a job in Canada (French/English National) in the marketing/Pharmaceutical business. I know this is too general, but I was hoping I can get a feeling of how the job market is in Canada.

I am just wondering if it's difficult for international (non-canadian) to find a job.

Appreciate your feedback :)

Cheers,
Sarah-Jane

Hi Sara-Jane,

Yes, your question is a bit broad to really answer well. It really depends on the exact area of marketing/pharmaceutical you deal with.

I'm sure that you can appreciate the fact that because of its close geographical and economic ties with the USA, that Canada didn't escape the fallout from the sub-prime crisis and recession that ensued, so finding a job in Canada is not as easy as it once was.

Having said that, if your work experience is specialized in any way and you happen to be fluent in both English and French, that would put you miles ahead of the competition in terms of job hunting.

I would suggest that you do one of two things. Contact major global Pharmaceutical companies in your country and find out if they have any openings in their Canadian operations and would accept your resume and forward it to HR in their Canadian subsidiary. Alternatively you could access the Pharmaceutic Companies which will probably have links to their Human Resources department and most accept your resume either in an online application or as an e-mail attachment.

If a company is really interested in what you've got to offer they might even be willing to help you with the details involved in obtaining a visa.

Good luck in the job hunt.

Hi William,

Thank you for your message, I really appreciate it.

I think you are right, I am asking too much of a general question. To answer your question, I am in Business Development so it does put me in between two industries.

The fact that Canada did no escape from the Fallout is on my mind a lot, hence my question on employment.

I think you are right, it would be easier to contact companies in my country and ask if they have subsidiaries in Canada.

Thank you for the advice.

Have a good day :)

Hi Sara,

Hope u doing great ... I will be moving to Canada in few months and the best way to find a job is to be there, what you can do is apply for immigrante visa either directly to canadian immigatrion office or through some legal firms, once u have the visa then will be easier for u to find a job and live there

Hello HandsomeMe,

I think you will probably find it quite difficult to obtain an immigrant visa and landed immigrant status in Canada without some firm job offer or confirmed employment contract.

The Canadian government is very concerned that you would have the ability to support yourself in the country.

Hi Sarah,

Canada is a land of opportunity. there is immense work potential for the skills in marketing  and Business Development.

i am aware of some people who have obtained jobs,  who have some prior experience overseas.

in which industry areas are you looking to work?  also,  there are companies who operate in your country  and North America as well.

let me know if i may be of some help to you, further.

best and much success

Hi everyone :)
I am Canadian, but I live in Morocco. Does anyone know if I could get a job in Montreal while I'm still here? I need something like a job promise  I can have the job interviews online or on the phone. Thanks!

ladyjane1

Hi Raju, thank you for your post! I work in a pharmaceutical company, but looking at changing industries and maybe go for marketing and advertising( my background is in marketing) and it's not easy to apply when you're so far away.

But. Thanks everyone for your answers

James

Hi thezee,

If you're a Canadian citizen then you should have no major problems. You simply send your resume to prospective employers and follow up on them from time to time. If any of them are interested they will contact you by e-mail I'm sure. Nowadays interviews are taking place on a global scale with applicants from all over the world so telephone or Skype interviews are becoming much more common. If you're looking to work in Montreal I'd recommend that you bone up on your French if you are not already fluent. From what I've been reading in the news lately the Language Laws are really becoming quite problematic nowadays.
