We are very interested in living abroad and have been traveling with that in the back of our minds. We're not wealthy and wouldn't mind working but will need to get the most bang out of our buck. This seems like it might be a great website to interact with real people making a go of it. While we love Italy we have read a lot of blogs warning of mild exploitation of ex pats and inconsistant municiple regulations depending on the public servant your dealing with. (If that makes sense) So far rural France seems the most favorable with so many young people leaving for the cities, cottages are reasonably priced. Any thoughts? Heading to Netherland and Belgium in the spring. Retiring in Europe is a very serious plan. David and Valerie

you right ,the best place to retire is in the southern europe where the weather is nice but don't forget the north part of africa too , you get the same thing but cheaper which is a plus.

You might like retiring in Belgium or the Netherlands. Belgium is a really beautiful country with lots of villages. I have lived in one myself and it did not seem like a remote place at all. It was somewhat rural and yet only 20 minutes away from Brussels by train.

Holland is beautiful, too. I would definitely recommend the south of the country. I spent a lot of time in Eindhoven, which I still love very much. Again, there are quite a few small towns and villages that are just beautiful. The people are great, too.
