I feel awful when you guys get taken advantage of :-/

If you feel like you get cheated in under-the-table deals, stick to official sources: Tüzép places sell pre-packaged pallets of firewood: "kalodás tüzifa". You can see what you get.

Alternatively, have a local friend order the firewood by the truckload, agreeing on the quantity and the price. They won't know you're foreign until they arrive at the address, with the truck already loaded and the price already set, so what can they do? Dump only half the load?

What price are you being quoted?

How are you buying - by weight or by volume?

In what condition (pre-split, stove length, large logs, etc).

What type of wood are you buying (different wood at 20% moisture content (don't burn new green or wet wood) provides more heat than others so actual heat content for price varies). Common woods you can buy for heating:

- oak (tőlgy or cser depending on species)

- black locust (called white acacia (fehér akác) in Hungary)

- chestnut (bükk)

This all matters in the price.
