Dear Satish
Ive been in and out of Kabul for the last 3 years, on different jobs, and its no problem at all ...its not like its Khandahar! Its a social town, with many house parties and several nice restaurants and pubs that international professionals frequent in spare time.
Most likely your employer will provide you guest house accomodation, which includes cooks, driver, in-house security, and maid service, The down side is you will most likely live with your work colleages which isnt great. If you can arrange for your own private accomodation once you know the city its much better.
Many western foreigners arent allowed by their security to go out and do much of anything, they are virtually prisoners of their residnece or office. I think this is ridiculous and utterly un neccessary. The chances of getting into a fatal car wreck in your home country are much more likely than anything happening to you in Kabul! You would be wise to question your employer as to what your security arrangments are, and quiery how strict they are - Do this before taking a decision.
kabul is an interesting city , with lots to do on your day off, and nice weekend trips to the North are possible - its no point to come to Afghanistan, if you can not learn about and enjoy the local people and their culture - its not all about work, something foreigners there too often do not realise, or have a chance to realise. There is a large Indian expat population in the city.
Etisalat is a good company; usually only Fri is the off day.
the biggest hardship of life in Kabul is horrible air pollution!
Its hot and dusty in summer, freezing in winter, lots of rain in spring; fall is best time. The mountains outside of the city are lovely all year round, and city traffic is also very bad - like India! If you are vegetarian, like me, you might find your diet a bit limitied!
Hope this helps
