Hey guys,

I'm one of the few not traveling for Tet and was wondering what some of the public celebrations are, where they are and when, I don't want to miss out. I hear there are fireworks on Sunday night somewhere...

Nguyen Hue, Quan 1, Floral Display

You can visit Nguyen Hue and see what this years 'garden' is like and then there are the fireworks. Then there are less than wonderful (this year) street lights on Dong Khoi, Le Loi and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia. In Cho Lon/China Town the dragons will be out collecting 'red packets' which the dragons hope are filled with money.

Enjoy the city, so many have left. My condominium underground parking is as full as it is usually overnight - the owners have gone back to the villages. (Except for the noisy old crone next door who beats on meat every day at 06.00H)

And all the kids/youth will have to turn out for a parade.

Make the most of the peace and quiet, whilst you can.

Hi the best place suite is in district one. Close by the Sheraton hotel. That usually organized on a ship between the river. If you want to have a close look try to be surround early as by 9 pm and late the surrounding start getting jam packed and make it nearly impossible to get close.

Another idea - Saigon Skydeck on the Bitexco Financial Tower. Tickets are about 500kVND.

Cheers!

Hi Ash,
There is also a nice little park just behind the Independence Palace.
I for get the name,
but it does have a great little flower show
plus a sort of crafts fair.
Not sure of the exact days it's running
but I went last year and it was pretty nice.
About two bucks to get in.
I might be downtown on Tues or Wed if you'd like some company.
I live out in District Nine
so I'd have to check if buses are running.
I usually come in to Duc Ba/Notre Dame Cathedral
by the big post office.
We could meet there.
Others interested are welcome.
Not lots open downtown.
Folks usually take the few days off.
But we can search around for a spot to eat.
It'd be fun to share the park with fellow expats.

If you want to experience the Vietnamese culture, you should go to one of those temples: Vĩnh Nghiêm, Việt Nam Quốc Tự, Đền Ngọc Hoàng, chùa Xá Lợi,.. either immediately after midnight tonight or early Sunday morning. They are going to be full of people.

Here is some pictures to give you some ideas.
