is religion really important when it comes to relationships?

Post new topic

hi there,

can a relationship with opposite sex will last for a long time even if they have different culture and religion?though there is love and affection with each other, there's some circumstances we need to face because it has been part of our lives like our own faith and beliefs which we had use to practice since birth.

it differs case from case but basically when two ppl met
two worlds collides . it's their choice whether it's good thing or bad thing
they can treat that differences as a way to learn & to evolve . cuz someone different from you will always have the ability to surprise you
on the other hand they can treat their differences as points of conflict
it's all about how these two ppl act on it , & how much they want to be together

but personally I'd cheer for the first case
cuz it's how god created us , different

For me- at the end, yes, religion is important. I am much prefer to be on the "same boat" so if not then just have to continue it to friendship.

But it just my personal opinion and will only explain it to my partner.:)

Even so am not against couples who with different religion. I see many get along just fine but its all depends on each of us I guess. I think there's many factors to make a relation works not just the religion things, you can't really tell which one will works to who.

Anyway, hope you got answers from others too and good luck you Jessie. :)

waw its really hard to give an opinion but i thinkthat religions is not obstacle and sure there is solutions bc all is clear and all solutions is existed so we must just little patient an dlittle want to search where is the solution ;) its all so nothingcan stop relationship of course i speak about honest relationship

thank u for the reply guys.i had seen some relationships like this to some of my friends, couples with different religion get well along better at first but in the end they separated because the other party wants conversion to their religion eventually.

but im thinking what the heck, if u really like each other, both of you can make beautiful things together if only u see no boundaries between each other..('',

This is really much more of a cultural question than a relationship question. Love can transcend everything if it is unconditional, well almost anything. It's stronger than race, age, religion, personal prejudices. We see clear examples of that all the time. I am presently in such a relationship which transcends age barriers, race, culture and both of us have never been happier.

However, when you combine religion and culture these can sometimes be insurmountable obstacles to a relationship. This is especially true in cultures with extremely strong or dogmatic religious philosophies regarding marriage or relations outside the culture or religion. It happens in many culture. Gypsies are not permitted to date or marry "Gaje", Islamic families demand their children marry within the religion or have potential partners convert to Islam. You rarely, if ever, see it the other way around. Even Catholics expect their faithful to convert partners or they are not considered for marriage in the church.

So I guess it all boils down to the basic question, "Is my love strong enough for me to turn my back on my religion or culture, if need be?" If the answer you find in your heart is yes, then your relationship stands a chance of success (no relationship comes with guarantees). If your answer is no or I don't know then you had better think twice before you do anything, you are courting disaster.

I am a very religious person, I am also very tolerant when it comes to religious freedom of choice. I do not subscribe to the belief that their is 'one true religion', but rather that there is only 'one true God' no matter what name we give him.

I find it rather strange that while almost all religions teach that God is love they have religious beliefs that serve only to complicate love to the extreme.

Do a search on religion and relationships. Many are "blinded by love" to prove their love. PreNuptials Agreements DO NOT exist here.
To most people, a marriage is between two people or families. When you introduce Religion, the family gets BIGGER.

I believe religion is a part of what binds the relationship together. The level of love between many couples tend to fall after a decade of marriage or so, perhaps because of social or money problems. But, because religion prohibits a husband from leaving his wife in misery, marriage lasts longer than it should be. Maybe, religion itself is an excuse to hold together an impossible marriage for a long term. It's an outlet for respective partners who really realize they want to stay together despite the numerous difficulties they are encountering.

People swap religions for relationships all the time.  Most religious conversions are probably for marriage.

well it really differs in every situation.culture, religion, beliefs system would always be different from every person yet we can agree that even these things aren't permanent and can be change anytime.and we couldn't know the answers to this if we hadn't give some try, isn't it?i guess that's it.end of thread ('',

First of all I would like to question ourselves "If religion is important at all" in the first place. Apart from teaching us moral values and ethics, I don't think religion shall intrude as an influencing element in our lives.

When it comes to relations, it is more about level of understanding and maturity of the people involved in the relationship. No matter how similar the religion of the people are, there are disputes and clash of interests bound to arise in every relation. It lies in the hands of people to act with maturity and understand the differences among them to leverage on the diversity and constructively put them to use rather than finding faults with one another.

People get easily attracted towards people who look similar and follow similar practices. But only people who understand that each person is different and respecting the differences is the way of life will hold the relation lifelong.

My personal voice: Instead of discriminating people on religion, state, country and so on, we shall accept the fact that each person is unique and we all are equal humans here trying to find some purpose in life.

Thank you for reading and for the opportunity to voice out opinions by raising such questions.

Good day :-)

Somethings are easy to get in and near impossible to get out. Certainly religions are examples of those things.
NO prenuptials to religion when you convert to marry.

If God doesn't care what name you give, why should he (or she - or it?) care whether you call him one or many? I believe God (if he in fact exists) is well beyond such wordly categories!

no .. it never works out !! no matte how much the two parties try to cope , to be understanding or even to compromise... at some point it will all crash ... that happened with my parents ... never risk that kind of a relation , they spent 23 years hating each other over silly details of religion and culture ... then it all fell apart , and the children pay the price of that.

A marriage is essentially a contract by law. Legally, there are many laws in place in several democratic and liberal countries to get married without conversion, inter-religious marriages or inter-nationality marriages.
Marriage between two individuals is a personal choice, however. It is best to know and discuss about potential conflicts or situations in the future after marriage. Even the happiest couple, whether within a religion or outside a religion, or with cultural differences will have small problems every now and then. There are many such issues daily, finances, emotional, professional, external, linguistic.
Nothing is insurmountable if the individuals are willing to cater to each other at all times. Marital discord arises when the individuals do not choose a middle path and stick to highly individualistic opinions without considering the others'. There can be several other causes.
To convert for marriage is not a must. People marry for various reasons, some obvious, some not so much so.
The compatibility between varying psyches is the most important!

Think if you have different religion, example Islam and Catholic, How will you get married? which practised of marriage will you follow? how about your kids how will you baptise them? How will you pray with your kids, and there's no such thing is half christian and half muslim....ok :)

Millions of people are willing to kill & die for their religion.  It must be important to them.

Morals & ethics are pretty important.

owais.truefriend

It depends on the mutual understanding of each other; if they both love each other surely they will also compromise on each other’s religion. I think if they both love each other then they should continue their own religions there is not necessity to change religion.
