Embarassing moments!

Post new topic

Jo Ann

As travellers, I am sure all of us had this kind of situations, whether you blush or want to get buried somewhere!

One of my last real embarrassing moments was back in June, when I was in Amsterdam in family and we had to cross the Red Light District...
And my father was walking just behind us :unsure

What about you?!
Com'on, don't be shy, the worse is already over ;)

1 week ago I was in a lift with 4 japanese girls and I accidentally put my bums on all the buttons... We had to stop at 10 floors before going out, it took like 10 minutes, good laugh...

I'm sure some of you have had those moments!! :D Com'on, don't be shy!

I don't believe we needed to do this in Germany, but then again I'm not sure I've ever found an all-you-can-eat buffet in Germany (that I remember anyway), but I was with a fellow friend of mine from Germany out in Wichita, KS, USA.  She'd been there a while, so when we were at a place that had all-you-can-eat night, she stopped me before I could go get seconds with my original plate.  Was a very sudden "no, this isn't germany, they don't reuse plates at buffets here!".  For some reason, it's apparently unsanitary to reuse a plate at a buffet in this country?  I dunno, but her saying that turned a few heads and I felt like I was fundamentally unclean or something.  A moment of not-so-subtle cultural enlightenment that we laughed off pretty quickly, she had a similar story of sudden buffet "hygine awareness"...

Then there was a fun moment in my childhood when we were flying back home to Germany for the ump-teenth time from a trip to see our relatives in the states and such, and the flight attendent, a young woman, observing me and my little sister speaking perfect American-accented english, asked if we "were looking forward to our vacation in Germany?"  We explained that we were in fact comming BACK from our vacation and going home.  Her mind was apparently certifiably blown, cause she started on this really huge, long spiel about how lucky we were, blah blah blah, everyone for about three seats forward or behind could hear her get really into the fact that we were americans living in germany.  She asked if we spoke German, since our english was perfect, and both my sister and I explained that our german was sub-par, we go to school at a Department of Defence school, etc. etc., and she make absolutely sure everyone on that particular half of the plane could hear her berate the fact that we wern't "taking advantage of this wonderful learning opportunity", even though in the midst of her tiraid my sister gets out the fact that she has more of an interest in French and was learning that instead, and I mention that though my German isn't fluent, it's fairly close.  Essentially, two expat children vs. a very vocal, idealistic flight attendent!  Nothing like some drama to break up the 9-hour flight I suppose.

Gotta say that's the only real problem I've had with this particular airline, but to protect the innocent, I won't mention which airline it was :) .
