LIfe style in DQ

What is it like to live in the DQ. Is it similar in restrictions as in the city or is it more like a western compound?

Thanks

The DQ has been discussed a lot.  Rather than giving you a fish, how about I teach you how to fish?

See that white rectangular box in the upper right hand corner?  It says 'Google Custom Search.'  Type in Diplomatic Quarter Riyadh and then click 'GO' and see what happens.

Have fun! :)

Well I have been fishing, but the have not had alot of luck. Maybe the fish in Saudi are differant than in Florida. On one hand I see were you can do things just like in a Western Compound. To quote you Alli "absolutly correct" then I find comments how pools have different days for men and women, and there are women only gyms, so maybe I am am missing something or should I just conclude its freere that outside but more restrictive than a compound. So can mixed singles have coffee at the DQ Starbucks or get together for a superbowl party or maybe world cup party for the rest of the expat world.

Okay.  The DQ is definitely not a western compound although you are totally free if you are at an embassy attending an event.

If you live there, there are just villas.  You have a certain degree of privacy but if your neighbors report suspicious 'goings-on,' you may have official visitors (mutawa can and do enter the DQ).  On the other hand, I have seen women there jogging in capris and t-shirts.

People I know there live in villas and there are no pools or gyms as villas are individual.  However, there is a ladies spa and other amenities in the DQ but you'd have to join them and pay the attendant fees.

As for Starbucks, you'd be in public and taking a chance, but a slimmer chance, I think, than on Olaya Street.

Ok thanks, sounds like in a nutsheel the rules are the same as in the city, you just MAY get away with more.
