Hi

My son went to Switzerland with the school, skiing (his first time ). He was so excited and has been looking forward to this trip for months.

Unfortunately at the end of the second day he fell and broke his collarbone so he couldn't ski.

I want to take him to the indoor ski centre in Dubai for his birthday in June once his shoulder has healed.

Can anyone recommend a nice reasonably priced hotel that is close to the skiing and family friendly please?

The place you will go is in Mall of the Emirates. There is Ibis hotel next to the Mall of the Emirates. The prices are very reasonable. But then taxis in Dubai are cheap so you shouldn't limit yourself to a place nearby. A bit more expensive, you can stay in Novotel World Trade Centre. It's about 20 mins by taxi and will cost you about 6BD to get to Mall of the Emirates from there. 2 nights at Ibis will cost about £110, at Novotel it will cost about £170 if you book early. Further upmarket will be Movenpick Bur Dubai, will be about £240 for 2 nights - this one is in Bur Dubai. Four Points by Shareton on Sheikh Zayed Road is another good hotel on the £240 price mark. These prices are all the prices I pay in average when I stay in Dubai. The higher the price you pay, the better the quality of the hotel gets.

These are the hotels I regularly stay. When you book your hotel, sometimes Breakfast is not included but when you check-in, you can purchase breakfast for your entire stay. Do this during your check-in as it will be discounted. Don't show up in the morning and pay the full price.

You know Trivago, right? It's a very good hotel price comparison website as it compares the prices of hundreds of hotel booking websites. Or if you are collecting Welcome Rewards, use Hotels.com. Collect 10 nights stay and get 1 night free.

Last time I went to Dubai, I stayed in the Fraser suites near the media city, the price was OK, and the suites were very nice.  Suites  in the higher floors have breath taking views.  Although taxies are relatively cheap, but queues for taxies in the large malls could really take very long time.  Consider renting a small car from the airport, you will love driving in Dubai; it’s nothing like driving in any other place in the gulf.
Hope your son will be fine
Have fun

Hi Jo,

You can also try Ziqoo or Chelsea Gardens. They are close to Ibn Battuta Mall and 10 minutes from Mall of Emirates.
There is a metro station at walking distance.

In Chelsea Gardens Hotel apartment you will find accommodation from 30 BHD (room, bathroom, little kitchen). The price includes a nice breakfast buffet and they have a restaurant in the hotel + 24h room service.

In Ziqoo, same kind of apartments, Japanese style, breakfast buffet is a little cheap but can do. No restaurant though.

These are the only ones I personally tried. The others I know only by reputation.

Besides that, I'm not that sure about what Nawafo says about driving in Dubai :p It's less hectic than in Bahrain because there are radars everywhere, but during peak hours, it's so congested you feel like you'll never get out of it !

Enjoy your trip prep.

Cheers

Thanks Olivier, I think due to your comments we will give the driving a miss. The Metro does sound good though.

Googling all hotels and looking on trip advisor but I always prefer personal recommendations where possible

Did you know there is a VIP cabin on Dubai Metro? Try that - not much more expensive.
