I want to move to Brazil to do automation engineering, i don't know Portuguese but am willing to learn rapidly.... What do English speaking foreigners usually do for a living after arrival?

As I've always counselled foreigners thinking of seeking work in Brazil it is imperative that you learn Portuguese long before coming to Brazil. English, despite being heralded ase the "universal language of commerce" is NOT spoken widely in Brazil, not even in business circles. Being able to communicate with your co-workers and superiors is of utmost importance, so start learning Portuguese long before you come here.

The only jobs readily available to non-Portuguese speaking foreigners is teaching English or other languages, which does not pay well at all.

Since Brazilian laws require employers clearly demonstrate that they've exhausted all avenues of placing qualified Brazilians in job vacancies before hiring a foreigner to fill them, when they do offer a job to a foreigner, preferance will always be given to one who can speak Portuguese as well as their native language.
