Hi there to everybody,

I am considering looking for a job in Mauritius, but was wondering about the languages there.

The official language is English, but do you also have the chance to speak French a lot?

I really want to improve my French again, so I am a bit worried that maybe Mauritius will not be the perfect destination?!?

Thanks for your comments.

Hello Lostris01,
Don't you worry, English is mainly used in Administration; most people speak rather fluently French (and by the way the French and Belgian community is quite extended here in Mauritius). So no problem there.

All the best for your job search.

Hi Arlette,

Thank you for your answer.

That is good news.

But is it also true that the Mauritiens do not really like to mix up with the foreigners?

Will keep you updated, if I finally find a job there.

Best regards,

Locals and foreigners fare well together. I'm an American and my wife is South African and there's no problem with local people. Mauritius is known for friendly people.
