Hi,
I will be in KL next month and stay in hotel for 2 weeks( company paid) to have time for finding and renting my place.
I haven't decided on neighborhoods yet, so I think it would be very hard home hunting without a car. From another hand, I don't know the city at all so I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to buy a car first.
By the way, is it a fast process to buy a second hand car in there or it would last a week for example?
Another question: I did search on related website for car and for example find a 2009 persona for 30000 RM. Are they exactly worth it or they are cheaper in real car selling parking.
Next issue: I find MAPLE Condos nice and relatively near to KLCC (the office), Any idea??
Thank you guys.

Hi best you hire. Local rates about 1000 RM per month for a wira. Better you get used to local traffic first. You will need a sat nav! Buy after a few months when you got used to traffic and yes a car will be essential

Dear Expats,
Your review and suggestion is highly appreciated.

Hi,

If you are working in KLCC area, there are ample public transportation around. Just find accommodation with public transport nearby ie. LRT, taxis etc. and you don't need to buy a car.

Hope that helps.

i think rezasme is referring to having a car to look for houses. nemedot is right, hire a car! buying a car involves certain formalities, first being getting ur work permit. this will take more than 2 weeks itself. rent a car and get a gps. make sure u apply for an international driving license before u come here.

johan yee

Isnt necessary to hold international driving license as foreigners are allowed to convert their driving license.Go to nearest JPJ and pay RM80 for that.

carlyle1979

hi yohan, that rule does not apply to all nationalities. only some can convert. not sure which nationality is rezasme.

Recommend you to use taxi for these 2 weeks while you're looking for condo. Renting a car is probably gonna cost more than the taxi budget for your condo searching anyway.

Use budget taxi and if you find a nice driver you can arrange booking with him for like half/full day and cover a lot more places compared to driving around yourself, constantly getting lost :)

Later when you settled down you get your own car...

I checked the car rent and it's much more than 1000 RM for a Wira. Please tell me the Taxi fare for a distance from KLCC to Ipoh or Mont kiara for example.
My more important question is:
Is the prices in iproperty or carlist real?

carlyle1979

yes, iproperty is a reliable site. and i think hiring a cab for an entire day might fall cheaper. u can strike a deal with a cabbie to take u around to look for a place to stay.

Hi local companies charge 1000 rm per month for a wits. Look in star newspaper. A taxi will cost more but then you get a driver of course

Ipoh!? I thought you said you're coming here for 2 weeks to search for an apartment in KL. Ipoh is 200km away.

KLCC to Mont Kiara, haven't made the trip myself but I'm guessing around RM15 for one way with budget taxi (using meter of course).

Regarding your question about iproperty. Sometimes it's obvious that the pictures are not for the advertised unit, but rather from a number of different units in that condo (for example there can be pictures of several different bedrooms although the unit only have 1 bedroom).

But what you "need" to be careful with is the location they claim to advertise for. Because sometimes they will tag the post as KLCC or Bangsar or any other popular area, but when you look up that condo it's actually not in the area at all but rather some neighboring area.

I have for example seen pantai hillpark being advertised as Bangsar many times (nowadays they like to call it Bangsar South though...)

Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestions.
By Ipoh I meant jalan ipoh which is near to KLCC I think. I saw a conco in iproperty named maple. does anybody have any idea about it? recently I heard a lot about robbery in KL, is it true? does it happen even in gated condos?

joyce.ipoh

Hi, about robbery - Mostly robbers here like to target girls. I am writing these, assuming you are a girl. You got to be a little bit more careful if you are using Public Transport and when you walk, especially if you carry a handbag. In the event of snatch theft, I will suggest not to struggle and just let go. Some have lost their life fighting for their handbags out of snatch thieves.

Minimize jewellery. Try not to walk alone in a quiet staircase or car parks or some isolated areas. Before you get in the car (when you get your car), try to take a peak inside (just to make sure no one is hiding inside) and once you get in, lock the doors and start driving right away!

Gated and guarded condominiums are safer as compared to the normal ones but they are not theft-proof. You may want to have additional safety features installed like CCTV in your place. If you are going to have expensive household things, get them insured. It may well be covered against fire and flood as well.

Apart from robbery, accidents can happen to anyone and anywhere. Therefore, insure also yourself especially against Total Permanent Disability (TPD) & also your life, you know, just in case!

Hi,
I'm in KL now in KLCC darby park hotel and don't really like the neighborhood. crowded, smelly, lots of construction in process, noise, ... but very convenient and short distance to towers, shopping centers,...
Please advice me better neighborhood. for example is jalan ipoh or mont kiara the better places?

andy sundram

Hi maybe you could come over to Puchong Selangor, i would say a much bETTER place to stay compared to other places in KL.

keithng

Gated condos is safe until you walk outside on the streets. Jalan Ipoh is quite notorious for robbery.
Places like Mont Kiara and Bangsar is safer as they are expatriates neighbourhood.

Hi Rezasme,
You might want to check on Damansara Perdana area.
