residence card question, changed name in passport

Post new topic

Hello,

My wife recently renewed her passport and changed her last name in her passport.

Her temporary residence card reflects her old last name and expires May 5, 2013.

We plan on leaving the country for a trip in April, and getting a visa on arrival when we return.

Will she be able to leave the country with her residence card which states her old last name if she accompanies it with her voided passport and new passport?

Thank you for any input.

g_andy To answer your question, yes it might be possible because your departing Vietnam , not entering. If the name change to her passport was because of marriage, maybe having a certified copy of it to show immigrations would be enough along of course with the old pp and temp card. All they’ll be doing is stamping the new pp as a departure from Vietnam. Never can tell though. The obvious thing to do is replace the temp card before she leaves, but that might work in her case if she’s not returning to work here.  If you want to ensure a smooth departure just get a 1 month tourist visa, they aren’t that expensive when you compare it with the hassle she might have to go through right before you have to fly.

g_andy Your profile only shows your in Vietnam no city name. One other options might be if your living in and plan on fling out of Saigon to just make a quick trip out to the airport before hand and see what immigrations has to say. I've suggested this on other threads and every time the out come was positive. Their  the ones you'll be dealing with anyway on the departure day.

Hi Budman1,

I am currently in HCMC. Thank you for your suggestion. To speak to immigration at the airport, wouldn't I have to go through the security checks and require a ticket? I'm not familiar with the airport layout. Is there is an immigration desk at the airport before security?

Do you think I can get reliable advice from travel agents who deal with visa's?

g_andy No you won't have to go thru much to get to talk to them. You should be able to tell the rent-a-cop at the entrance that you need to speak to immigrations. Have the pp and other paperwork in your hand, you should be ok. I'd talk to these folks if possible before I started dealing with the visa sellers. All they want to do his sell you a visa, which in your case may or may not be required. Who did the paperwork for the temp card? May be a more trustworthy source than a travel agent you've never worked with before. Again only if it's needed
