Does anyone know the laws pertaining to bringing knives into the country and carrying them in public? I'd like to bring either a fixed blade or a folding blade knife with me and maybe a multi-tool, nothing longer than a 6" blade and no butterfly/switchblade/throwing knives, just a regular old pocket knife and a "utility" knife. I don't want to lose anything to the customs man, and more importantly I don't want to run afoul of the law.

Bringing a knife in luggage won't be an issue but if you are caught walking around in public carrying a 6" blade you'll have a major problem.

I've brought in several kitchen knives and DIY type retractable blade knives in hand luggage without any problems before. I also keep a multi-tool which has a 3-4" blade in the glove box of the car but don't carry it around with me.

I don't see any problem keeping a multi-tool in your pocket if you need to use it for your job, say in the warehouse or at the rig site, but same as any other country, carrying an offensive weapon in public will get you into trouble.
