MOVING BACK TO SOUTH AFRICA - URGENT ADVICE?

Post new topic

Hi all,

I was born in the UK but my family moved to South Africa in 1972 and I was educated and raised there.  I returned to the UK in 1993 and have been living here for 20 years.

I have now decided I want to return to the South Africa with my 11 year old daughter who was born in Britain.

In 2011 I renewed my South African Passport, and at the time completed the Determination of Citizenship form.  Does the fact that I have a valid South African passport mean that I have dual nationality and can just return to South Africa without having to obtain any further permission?

Also, what steps do I have to take to ensure my daughter can enter the country?  Her father does not have parental responsibility for her, so does he have any say in the matter?

I have tried to contact various immigration/home affairs offices without any response - so any information with regards returning home would be greatly appreciated.

As a South African citizen with a South African passport you can enter and leave the country as you wish. Given this fact, your daughter can enter on a temporary "holiday" permit, or you can apply for a Relative's Permit for her, or even better, you can apply directly for Permanent Residency for your daughter, since you are a citizen.

In addition, you can jump online and search for immigration lawyers in South Africa, and call a few - they'll tell you the advice you need to know.

Good luck!

Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated.  Now I know I am classed as a SA citizen, I can start the ball rolling regarding my daughter.

Kindest Regards
