planning a visit to Costa Rica

Hi - We (my husband and I) are planning a trip to Costa Rica in Jan of 2014 - We will be on the Pacific coast and wondered if there are any neat fishing villages along the coast for us to stay for 2 or 3 3 weeks?

January is a great time to visit the Pacific side of CR. It’s dry, hot and they usually start working on the roads too! There are two good sections to look in to: Nicoya Peninsula and from Quepos south. On the peninsula you have numerous towns along the coast starting in Playa del Coco and going all the way to Montezuma. From Quepos, there is Manuel Antonio, Dominical, Uvita and the wilds of the Osa Peninsula.  I suggest getting a map and looking up each town and seeing what you like. Don’t think you can easily bounce around from place to place, especially on the Nicoya Peninsula. Roads are not paved, you may have to forge rivers, and some places just get completely washed out in the rainy season. It’s best to pick a place and not go too far. From Quepos, the road is paved and traveling will be easier (not that traveling around here is easy by any stretch of the imagination). Tourism has been down, but it is still best to book a place early.  Good luck!

If you are looking for a nice place to stay for a few days I highly recommend tiki-villas.com/index.html. We have been in the area a few times and this is one special place.  Located between Dominical and Uvita.
Cheers .... Terry
