Moving my private stuff to Kenya

I have some boxes with my private stuff (bike, clothes etc.) in Dubai with a freight forwarder. To clear it here in Nairobi I am told by a Kenyan freight forwarder that I need a work permint... As far as I am concerned that may take 2-3 months - can't wait for my stuff for that long. Can I clear my goods with a application for a work permit? Anybody that knows a freight forwarder that can handle this?

I understand that some evidence that you will be residing in Kenya (ie: not a visitors visa) is required, prior to importing personal effects.  I would imagine that the outcome of the work permit application would need to be known first for this reason.

Hi there, I came to Kenya on a tourist visa and had no problems at all bringing in my personal items by air freight. The only paperwork they wanted from me was my passport and visa. I organised it with an international freight company, my freight arrived 2 weeks later, and I picked it up the very next day.
