Foreign nationals identity card

The Ghanaian Government is issuing identity cards to all foreign nationals who stay in Ghana for longer than 90 days in a calendar year.
You need to get a scratch card at CAL bank for US$120 or cedi equivalent and then go to the registration centre and fill in a form and you will be issued with the card there and then. I did everything at the CAL bank in Ridge.
There doesn't seem to be any real advantage in having one although it may help you with bureaucratic things. However, there seems to be a penalty if you have been in Ghana longer than 90 days and have not got one. I presume they might ask to see it at the airport when you leave the country

Hi hkann,

It has finally come to this, good thing though.

Just a few questions:

1. How long is the validity of this ID card for foreigners?
2. Any different category for different reasons of stay for example,
business, spouse of Ghanaian citizen, long term employment?
3. Will it affect those with long term stay applications who
has Temporary Jacket (file folder called TJ at immigration
   office)?

Thanks

It has to be renewed every year. I don't think there are any categories of foreign nationals involved, you just have to have been in the country longer than 90 days in a calendar year and not be a diplomat or similar.

Thanks for the info. Cheers
