Some questions about going to Canada

Post new topic

Ruben1984

Hello, I want to know some questions about going to Canada.
I want to go to live in Toronto, to find a job a live there, and my question, or my questions are:

Waht is the best solution for me? Going to visit the country and then try to find a job? Is that possible? Or, it´s better to try to obtain the visa first and then go to Canada?
Is it illegal to try to find a job if we are visiting the country?

Best regards,
Ruben Caldeira

Hi Ruben,

While nothing prevents you from coming to Canada on a Tourist Visa and looking for a job you are not permitted to work if you only have a toursit visa.

Obtaining a Work Visa is much easier if you already have a firm job offer; easier still if you fit into the Skilled Worker category.

As far as finding work in Canada goes, it is also recommended that you start with contacting multinational companies in your own country which also have operations in Canada. You can either find out from them if they have vacancies in Canada and can help fit you into one of them. At the very least they can probably put you in touch with the right people in their Human Resources Department of their Canadian operation.

Hi again Ruben,

Just to add that every major Canadian city has a fairly good sized Portuguese speaking community. You'll find lots of Portuguese, Acorianos and Brazilians in the biggest cities like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver especially.

When I was learning the Portuguese language in Vancouver back in 2001 I jumped into the Luso-Brasileiro community with both feet. I was simply amazed how many new friends I was making. Kind of made me stop seeing Vancouver as being mostly Chinese, but rather really more multicultural than I had ever seen it to be in the twenty-eight years that I'd been living there.
