Hi.sorry to be blunt, but thais don't smile unless they see money. I always wonder, they say Thailand is a land of smiles, but I don't see the smiles! I have given up making and meeting so called friends. Majority are cons. Kassen

Perhaps you haven't experienced living in a normal Thai community. All the people I meet each week are Thai I try to speak to them in their language which I can also read.

Some smile some don't, some are more friendly than others-thats life. Come to think of it I don't smile all the time either. But I smile a lot more in Thailand than I do back in the UK.

As for cons, well yes I am sure there are some, have I been scammed in Thailand? Yes, once when a taxi driver, took advantage of my then lack of local knowledge.

Just how long have you lived in Thailand?

Well, let's look at the situation from a different angle. I stay with my wife who is Thai in kabin buri. We have been staying in the village for 5yes now,yet we we still don't know our neighbors. We just about greet them. We never see them . I am always in my garden but still difficult to communicate with them. Understood that most Thais don't talk English but they won't even try. Now  that Thailand have joined the Asean countries, they should introduce English to all the schools.

You're in their country, why don't you try to speak Thai?
